Back when I lived in King West, I often went to Beast Restaurant with friends after work for their for their $5 snack menu. Only recently when I was looking for an after work location to go to with friends did I notice, by chance, that Beast has not just one, but two deals worth checking out!
I’m not sure why restaurants make it so hard to find out their specials! I happened to scroll through Beast’s website and noticed this cute image:
Then noticed this amazing caption: bottles of wine every Wednesday from 5pm till close for 1/2 price!!
This is an amazing deal! But why, when I went on a Wednesday night, was this place not packed full of people? The wine list is pretty extensive and this is a really phenomenal deal. Probably because no one knows about this promotion (I only found the details by going to the “What’s Happening” section of the website).
Beast 120 is their version of happy hour with select drinks and snacks for $5: available every week, Tuesday through Friday from 5pm-7pm.
Unlike the wine special, Beast does a great job of highlighting their menu of $5 drinks and snacks under its own category called Beast 120. I enjoyed a Negroni from the drink special the night I went and they didn’t skimp on the alcohol just because it was a special. I hate it when restaurants do that and Beast passed my test!
The “snacks” are just that; small, snack-sized appetizers. If you’re going with a group and want to share, err on the side of ordering more.
The servers have always been fantastic, always checking to see if you want to order more off the special menu and even make sure to come by right before 7pm so you can get your last order in before the cut-off time. I really appreciate this because there’s nothing worse than wanting more from the special menu only to be told you’ve missed out by 3 minutes!
Beast has a really good atmosphere, especially the patio (for those few months a year that we Torontonians can enjoy a patio). Good service and atmosphere are really important to me and is usually the deciding factor in whether I’ll return to a restaurant.
If you want to order off the rest of the menu, keep in mind that everything is really tasty but servings tend to fall on the small side, which I don’t mind as I tend to overeat when I’m out.
I don’t normally eat dessert, but the last time I went the servers talked my table into trying the Sticky Toffee Pudding (apparently they’re famous for it). One dessert, three spoons! Sorry, I was too slow to get a photo (I ended up taking a picture of the empty bowl which looked very unappealing). I have never wanted to drink the leftover sauce out of a bowl more than that night. It was beyond delicious.
If you’re looking for an after work location that has a great drink special, tasty snacks, good service and atmosphere, and takes reservations, then check out Beast.
Rumour has it that their brunch is also pretty fantastic. I might have to take a trip back for Brunch Tours!
